Why Salon Hair Always Feels "Expensive" (And Why It Disappears at Home)

I don’t know if this happens with everyone, but with me it’s always the same.

Come back from the salon → hair looks amazing. Like actually smooth for once, not doing its own thing. You touch it and it feels… expensive (if that makes sense).

Then first wash at home… and it’s gone.

Back to slightly frizzy, slightly dry, not terrible but definitely not salon-level either.

For a long time I thought maybe I just don’t know how to maintain it properly. But turns out, it’s not just about “how” you do things.

A big part of it is what you’re using.

Most shampoos we casually buy are kind of harsh. They clean, yes, but also strip your hair a bit. So whatever smoothness you had doesn’t really last.

Salon products like L'Oréal Professionnel or Matrix are made differently. Not saying they’re magic—but they don’t leave your hair feeling empty after a wash.

One thing I changed (without overcomplicating everything):

I stopped using random shampoos.

Like earlier it was just—whatever is available, looks good, decent price, done. But hair doesn’t really work like that.

If it’s dry, use something for that. If it’s colored, use something that doesn’t fade it faster. Sounds obvious, but I ignored it for a long time.

Also… hair masks.

I used to think they’re optional or just extra marketing. But they do make a difference—just not instantly dramatic.

Tried a couple from Schwarzkopf and Beauty Garage and yeah, hair felt softer for longer. Not salon-level perfect, but noticeably better.

I still don’t use it regularly. Just when I feel like my hair needs it.

Another thing no one really talks about properly—tools.

I was using a basic straightener before. Thought all of them are the same.

They’re not.

Uneven heat = weird results + more damage. That’s probably why my hair never looked consistent.

Switching to something like Alan Truman made styling feel… easier? Less effort for a better result.

One annoying part though—finding original products.

There’s a lot of duplicate or questionable stuff online. Same packaging, completely different results.

I’ve started sticking to places like zyvanea.com because at least I don’t have to think twice if it’s real or not. They have proper brands like Streax Professional and even skincare like CeraVe, so it’s just simpler.

Anyway, yeah.

There’s no perfect routine I follow. No fixed steps.

Just better products, slightly more attention… and that’s it.

Some days hair still acts weird. But overall—it’s better than before.
